Glyn eventually moved to the Solo Trombone seat, and was part of the trombone section that won the Best Trombone Section in the Championship Section at the 2004 Treorchy Contest. After brief spells with the Tylorstown, Cwmaman and Mid Rhondda Bands, Glyn has now finished playing in order to concentrate fully as conductor of Gwaun Cae Gurwen.

Glyn attended Cardiff University School of Music from 2002 to 2005, and performed the Ferdinand David Trombone Concerto with the University Orchestra in front of 2000 people at Cardiff City Hall. Whilst living in Cardiff, Glyn was a regular conductor of the City of Cardiff Concert Band, and is still a regular guest conductor with them.
