Glyn first took up the trumpet at the age of 9 with Robert Owen,
and on moving to Amman Valley Comprehensive, moved to trombone
under the guidance of Mike Thorne. Glyn became an active member
of the Ammanford Town Band, and was Bass Trombonist when the
band became the 2nd National Champions of Great
Britain in 2001. Glyn eventually moved to the Solo Trombone
seat, and was part of the trombone section that won the Best
Trombone Section in the Championship Section at the 2004
Treorchy Contest. After brief spells with the Tylorstown,
Cwmaman and Mid Rhondda Bands, Glyn has now finished playing in
order to concentrate fully as conductor of Gwaun Cae Gurwen.
Glyn attended Cardiff University School of Music from 2002 to
2005, and performed the Ferdinand David Trombone Concerto with
the University Orchestra in front of 2000 people at Cardiff City
Hall. Whilst living in Cardiff, Glyn was a regular conductor of
the City of Cardiff Concert Band, and is still a regular guest
conductor with them. |
